disappointments

Disappointments come in all kinds of shapes and forms. They can be with people, failed plans, or even covid19 disruptions. It is what we do when they come that is a true test of character.

Christ told us we would have troubles not if or when but that we would.

I have told you these things, so that in Me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” John 16.33

The answer to disappointment is in that verse. Read it again.

I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”

So, what are we to do when trouble comes? Know we can still have peace because of Christ!

What comfort and hope to lean in to our Savior!

And the best part is knowing this old world with all its trouble is not the end. Problems as fear of failure, fear of viruses, racism, selfishness, self preservation or success at the cost of another, and the list can go on, we must contend with on a daily basis. What would you add?

A glorious day we can look forward to is coming when we meet our Saviour face to face in glory.

Not only did He promise to give us peace, He promised He would return: “Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me. In my Father’s house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also.” John 14.1-3

Here’s some other powerful passages to be encouraged about Christ’s return:

For the Lord himself will descend from heaven with a cry of command, with the voice of an archangel, and with the sound of the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive, who are left, will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we will always be with the Lord.” I Thessalonians 4.16-17

And there will be signs in sun and moon and stars, and on the earth distress of nations in perplexity because of the roaring of the sea and the waves, people fainting with fear and with foreboding of what is coming on the world. For the powers of the heavens will be shaken. And then they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. Now when these things begin to take place, straighten up and raise your heads, because your redemption is drawing near.” Luke 21.25-28

Until then don’t let disappointment reign. A heart divided can not breed contentment. Harboring hurts of today only ruins tomorrow.
