get out of self

Feeling down?

Get up and do something.

Cat got your tongue?

Play some worship music and sing out loudly.

Just want to hide away under covers?

Get outside and marvel at the beauty of creation.

The bottom line is to get out of self which includes self loathing, self criticizing, and self sabotaging.

Get into the Word and let it permeate your soul.

Remind yourself that God loves you.

And if need be, grab a brother or sister to help you get out of self.

One of the best ways to do this is to serve someone else. On a day that seems particularly hard on you, seek to help another lower than you feel.

Getting out of self even in the midst of your difficult or depressed moment, may just be the ticket to returning to happiness.

We have a choice.

Choose joy.

The Word even tells us to do so: “Rejoice always and delight in your faith; be unceasing and persistent in prayer; in every situation [no matter what the circumstances] be thankful and continually give thanks to God; for this is the will of God for you in Christ Jesus.” (‭‭1 Thessalonians 5:16, 18‬ ‭AMP‬)

God never promised an easy road so why should we expect one. He does expect us to shine through it. He did say: “I have told you these things, so that in Me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” (John 16.33)

Did you catch that? It was not if or when, but you will have trouble! But, don’t forget what He offers – His peace!

Let us remind each other that God’s peace is there for the asking. That will truly help us get out of self.

And remember, we are made for community so when trouble comes let us: “…bear one another’s burdens…” (Galatians 6.2)

They say a burden shared is a burden halved. Be a burden sharer and let others see you…
