the coffee pot sits empty

I was in the habit of setting up the coffee at night to be ready to brew the next morning for our sweet daughter-in-love as I rather say than law. She often would get up early to have quiet time with the Lord and all she would need to do was flip a switch to start brewing. It was a simple gesture that said I am thinking of you, I care for you, I love you, and I took some time to do this just for you.

You see, I am not a coffee drinker but I gladly prepared that pot for her while she and our son lived in our home during a recent transitional period for them. I was grateful for the bonus time to have after they had wed and moved away.

But, I also dreaded the day the pot would no longer need to be prepared.

After they moved, out of habit I went to prep the maker. And the next day, when I saw that empty pot I teared and was about to store it.

Then, I decided I am not going to put that pot away. It will sit there on the counter to remind me of the importance to daily pray. Anytime I make coffee for guests or my spouse, I will take that brewing time to fervently pray for the nations to come to know Christ.

We are like those coffee beans. We need to be ground down to rid ourselves of self. Then, the hot water (aka our Heavenly Father) refines us. And as the darkened water spills out from over the grounds and fills the air with its aroma, so too our souls are filled and changed when we spend time with the ‘Bean Master’ we call God.

Let Him fill you, change you, and make you into what He planned for you to be all along.

“…the one who says he abides in Him ought himself to walk in the same manner as He walked. I John 2.6

Our daughter-in-love knew the importance of abiding and spending time with God. I am grateful for her sweet spirit and example that all who fall into her life have the opportunity to follow suit.

You go do the same by not letting your pot sit empty. Let God fill your cup to overflowing so you can pour out His spirit and love to all He has you come in contact with. That is how we are to…

By this we know that we abide in Him and He in us, because He has given us of His Spirit.I John 4.13
